It's true, the J720 was the best camping companion ever. Well before Wi-Fi was ubiquitous, the uplink was done through a landline with the built-in modem or with a data cable linking the computer to a cell phone that emulated a modem. Either way, I connected to the dial-up ISP of my choice. Funny how technological progress has made something so cheap (anyone else remember Fido's $5 + air time data plan?) so expensive (<a href="http://www.fido.ca/portal/en/domore/options.shtml" rel="nofollow">$12 for 1 MB</a>? Please.) I also had an ethernet card, a Wi-Fi card, and a serial adapter to cover all of the other communications bases.

Despite years of trying, I've never been able to establish a link between the JLA satellite and Dodgeville. I blame Gleek.

"I took the 720 as my only computer on both business and camping trips as recently as 2003..."

No wonder he wouldn't leave his tent! He had a Jornada to keep himself amused.

The real question: How's the WiFi in the bush? Are trips taken only to campgrounds with WiFi? http://hotspots.wirelesstrips.com/

Or are you uplinking up to the JLA satellite?
