Call me paranoid, but this gas hookup doesn’t look kosher to me. It’s almost certainly to provide heat for workers while these townhouses are under construction, but that doesn’t give me any more confidence in its safety.

You’re certainly only as paranoid as my husband; it’s the kind of thing he’d point out to me and I’d go ‘oh yeah…’ (but not really understand until we discussed it later).
It looks like a flexible hose attached to the gas meter. No different than the flexible hose from a propane tank to the burners on a BBQ.
